A little about me
I
have been creative all my life,
I went to Plymouth College of Art and Design as a mature student in the 90's,
I have sold work privately and
exhibited a little locally, and am currently preparing to have an exhibition at the Meller Gallery in Whitney,
near Oxford. This will run to the end of January 2010.
I am fascinated by things spiritual, I find Byzantine art inpirational,
particulary icons, the idea that they are painted prayers. Sometimes when I start a painting I have
no idea where it will take me, or how long it will take, some have taken years. I apply layers to my paintings to give
depth of colour and richness. My painting is instinctive and the images evolve and I feel that I discover
the images, rather than impose them in the painting.
When I paint I think about life, eternity, my personal God and I pray, or
rather have one way conversations in my head, if that is what praying is. My imagination weaves stories around the paintings
as they develop. Whilst painting I often listen to music - from popular music, classical, religious
and Gregorian chant, which I love, but I will listen to any music that moves my soul. Artists who have had aprticlar
influence on my work are Marc Chagall, Cecil Collins and Klimt. There are many others but these are the main
ones.
I
often work at night when the world is silent, I feel that is a special time, when my soul is in harmony with my consciousness
and I feel that somehow I tune into the creative waves that flow around all of us all the time, but we are usually too
busy to notice.
I hope that you enjoyed your visit to my Gallery and thank you for the time. Please leave
a message and let me know what you think.
with kindest regards
Sue
